SUMMARY:North Lopham Church Bells Centenary
DESCRIPTION:St. Nicholas’ Church in North Lopham is celebrating 100 years since the augmentation and re-hanging of it’s bells. In April 1926 the Diss Express reported a “Munificent Gift to the Parish: New Bells for the Church” by Mrs. Annie Beales\, a highly respected local resident and widow of Stephen Beales\, one of the last linen manufacturers in the village. Through Mrs Beales’ kind gift the belfry was augmented and restored and new bells were installed. \nJust over 100 years later we are again celebrating our wonderful bells with an afternoon dedicated to them on Saturday 5th September. Experienced bell ringers are welcome to come and ring the bells any time from 1:30 pm. A special service led by our new Rector\, Revd Tracey Caswell\, will be held at 4:00 pm followed by tea at the church. \nAll are welcome and if anyone has any photographs of past bell-related events at the church please do bring them along. We’d love to see them. \nFor more information or to express an interest in ringing please email Julie Surridge\, Office Administrator\, office@winfarthingupperwaveney.org.uk

SUMMARY:The Building is the Burden: Lightening the Load
DESCRIPTION:Many church leaders in low income areas know that their building is more than bricks and mortar – it is a community space for people to come to\, to find peace\, contact\, practical support and God. Our buildings are a key asset. However\, we also know that many were built quickly and cheaply many decades ago\, and now show serious signs of aging\, wear and tear. Yet many congregations do not have the resources for the increasing levels of maintenance\, and the ongoing upkeep issues increasingly weigh leaders down drawing them away from their primary missional calling. \nThe key asset has now become a burden. \nThis conference aims to give church leaders practical advice and support to tackle such problems. Using expertise from the Church of England’s central Housing Project\, and the Church Urban Fund\, the day will be a mix of teaching\, sharing and seminars\, where nuts and bolts questions can be asked of those with the answers. \nOur prayer is that this conference will go some way to freeing church leaders of the burden to do what they have been primarily called to do – share the Gospel and God’s love in their local community. \nTickets are £25 (including lunch)\n \nProvisional Conference Agenda \n🕘 09:30 – Arrival\, Registration & Coffee\n🕙 10:00 – Welcome & Opening Prayer\n🕥 10:15 – Opening Keynote: + Rob Wickham (CUF)\n🕚 11:00 – Wellbeing Under Pressure: Rev Tim Ling (St Lukes For Clergy Wellbeing)\n🕦 11:40 – Understanding the System: What Help Exists?: CofE Church Buildings & Cathedrals Team\n🕛 12:15 – “Naming the Reality” – Facilitated small-group discussions\n🕧 12:45 – Lunch\, Networking & Stalls\n🕜 13:45 – Workshop Round 1 (45 mins) \n\n Affordable Housing – The Housing Project Team – “Could your church unlock affordable homes while securing its own future?
