SUMMARY:St Nicholas Church Dersingham Flower Festival 2026
DESCRIPTION:St Nicholas Church will be transformed into a vibrant celebration of colour and creativity for its annual Flower Festival\, featuring stunning floral displays created by local groups and individuals. This year’s theme\, ‘ABC – A Journey Along the Alphabet’\, promises imaginative arrangements inspired by letters\, words and stories. \nVisitors can enjoy the beautiful displays alongside live music\, refreshments\, tea and cake in the welcoming surroundings of the church. \nThe festival opens on Thursday evening with a special comedy night featuring award-winning writer and comedian Paul Kerensa (tickets required). DESCRIPTION:Start: Friday 18 September\, 5pm\, St George’s Colegate\, St George’s St\, Norwich NR3 1DA\n5pm An introduction to ‘Living by the Rule: Contemporary meets medieval’ by one of the curators\, Dr Ed Krčma.\n\n6pm Drinks and light buffet supper\, inspired by. St. Hildegard of Bingen’s recipes.\n\n6.45pm a performance by Vida Vojić ‘Hildegard of Bingen Invocations’\n\nVida Vojić invokes the spirit of Saint Hildegard\, by singing her medieval chants accompanied by the glass harp\, subtle electronics\, spatial feedback and light design\, in delicate response to the liturgical season. Hildegard of Bingen was a prophetic Benedictine abbess and polymath during the 12th century Roman Germany\, active as a music composer\, preacher\, writer\, theologian\, artist\, playwright\, herbal scientist\, cosmologist and mystic.\n\n8pm option to join Dr Nicola Simpson’s collaborative performance ‘The Table Poems and musical scores’\n\nSaturday 19 September\n10am: A visit to ‘Living by the Rule: Contemporary meets medieval’ at the Sainsbury Centre\, UEA\, followed by a discussion of the exhibition;\n\n12.30pm Lunch at the Sainsbury Centre café\n\nFree time to walk in the campus grounds\n\n3pm A ‘pilgrimage’ from the Julian Shrine to St John the Baptist\, Timberhill\, and then on to Norwich Cathderal guided by John Maddison.\n\n5pm Lecture by Blanche Girouard at the Weston Room\, Norwich Cathedral\nThe Artists’ Gift: how centuries of artists have used the life of Christ in art\n\nAttendees are asked to purchase their own dinner on Saturday evening. We will select a preferred pub/restaurant.\n\n***\n\nOn Sunday\, attendees are invited to join the Eucharist service at St George’s Colegate at 9.30am followed by coffee and a look at the church as the starting point of a tour of Norwich churches and their art and artefacts with the medieval historian and artist John Maddison. DESCRIPTION:Norwich Gilbert and Sullivan Society presents The Pirates of Penzance\nSaturday 7 November\, 2.30pm\nSt Cuthbert’s Church\, Wroxham Road\, Sprowston\, Norwich NR7 8TZ \nNorwich Gilbert and Sullivan Society will present a concert performance of Gilbert and Sullivan’s much-loved comic opera The Pirates of Penzance. \nThe principal cast\, appearing in costume\, includes David Ivison (Major-General)\, Tim Hurst-Brown (Pirate King)\, Andrew Inglis (Frederic)\, Kevin Jeckells (Samuel)\, Luke Davey (Sergeant of Police)\, Becky Pick (Mabel)\, Beverley McInnes (Edith)\, Teresa Clayton (Kate) and Pam Warren (Ruth)\, supported by a strong chorus. \nThe production team features Patrick Monk as Musical Director\, Peter Woods as Accompanist and Tim Hurst-Brown as Director. \nFirst performed in 1879\, The Pirates of Penzance remains one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s most popular operas\, featuring favourite numbers including I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General\, Poor Wand’ring One\, With Cat-Like Tread and A Policeman’s Lot Is Not a Happy One. \nAdmission is free\, with a suggested donation of £5 to help cover expenses.
