DESCRIPTION:Make a visit to St Mary’s Church in Attleborough on the weekend of 1 and 2 June and you will be assured of a feast for the senses. \nThere will be a Flower Festival – ‘A Musical Bouquet’ – in the church on both days. At 7.30pm there will be a concert by Norwich Baroque\, with soprano Sarahjane Stephen\, entitled ‘Li Fiori: musical flower gardens of the 17th century’. This will include music by Purcell\, Kapsberger\, Schenk\, and others\, with tickets (priced at £15\, under 18s go free) available on the door or online from the church website. \nOn the Sunday\, following the 10am Parish Eucharist\, there will be another opportunity to view the flower arrangements from 12 noon. Cream teas will be served from 1-4pm and this ‘musical bouquet’ of a weekend will be brought to a fitting end with a celebration service at 5pm.

SUMMARY:The Norwich Gilbert and Sullivan Society
DESCRIPTION:The Norwich Gilbert and Sullivan Society will present a concert version of ‘RUDDIGORE or The Witch’s Curse’ at St. Cuthbert’s Church\, Sprowston\, Norwich. The cast includes Thomas Monument\, Andrew Inglis\, Andy Weston\, Jon Bennett\, Tim Hurst-Brown\, Rachel Goodchild\, Genevieve Plunkett\, Janet Theobald and Victoria Monument. Beverley McInnes is Musical Director\, Andy Weston is Producer\, and there is a supporting chorus. \nRUDDIGORE was premiered at the Savoy Theatre\, London in January 1887\, where it ran for 288 performances. When the D’Oyly Carte visited the Theatre Royal\, Norwich for the last time in May 1981\, RUDDIGORE was in the repertoire. \nRUDDIGORE has been performed on five different occasions by the East Norfolk Operatic Society. The company was to have staged the show in 2021 but had to abandon the project due to lockdown. Gilbert and Sullivan enthusiasts now have a great opportunity to hear Sir Arthur Sullivan’s lively music coupled with W. S. Gilbert’s biting wit in this concert version of RUDDIGORE. Admission is free and refreshments will be available in the interval. Don’t miss it!

SUMMARY:Unlock Unearth – a new production from Bergh Apton Arts
DESCRIPTION:An evening of stories\, music\, magic and light\, with stories told by Hugh Lupton and others. Choir led by Clare Pastorius. \n\n\nCenturies slip by in the wink of an eye when Hugh Lupton with his friends\, the Onlie Begetters\, Wordsmiths\, Readers\, Singers\, Rude Mechanicals\, Gate Keepers\, Lantern Painters\, Makers of Masks\, Dragon Dreamers\, Grass Dolly Weavers and Portrait Painters lift you out of the everyday and into some magic. \nThe past is fragile as bones grown brittle with age\, as faint as a glimpsed ghost. We live in islands of secret and sacred ways\, islands where giants raised their barrows and standing stones. The earth and the rivers embrace thumbed shards of pottery\, a sword its jewelled hilt clasped closely by roots\, a bunch of keys\, a velvet cap\, a clay pipe\, a handful of coins. Scratch your name on the land’s face but below and below is a lost alphabet and lost words. A land with tales to tell and songs to sing\, a land of mysteries and riddles. \nIn writing workshops with Hugh Lupton we unlocked our word hoards then rifled through\, juggled with words and phrases to bring you stories. Hugh foraged through our writings and has produced six stories of Bergh Apton from the invasion of the Romans\, to Saxon celebration of harvest\, to Non\, Neb and Luck who keep watch over the door of the church\, to those sailing away to the New World\, to a blacksmith setting off to his new world and Hannah who wins £1\,000 on the Lottery! Connecting them all are woodpecker feathers and a flint tool curved like a young moon. \nListen and watch my people for who knows what dreams and tales will come. \nWarm clothing and outdoor footwear recommended \nFor late bookings\, call the number given at the bottom of the page
