“Churches Count on Nature” and “The Great Big Green Week” – wild times in June at All Saints Churchyards. Hemblington
Sat 3 Jun - Sun 18 Jun
All Saints Church Hemblington, NORWICH, NR13 4EF
Two glorious weeks of celebrating nature and the natural surroundings of All Saints Church, Church Lane, Hemblington between 3rd - 18th June.
All are invited to share in the beauty of the rural area in and around Hemblington’s church of All Saints. The church team is very keen to encourage an hospitable habitat for local flora and fauna and has recently achieved the bronze level A Rocha Eco-church award.
The small round towered Medieval church, boasting a unique wall painting of St Christopher, a fine font and several pre-Reformation features, is surrounded by two churchyards. The southern one enjoys a very wide variety of wild flowers and is managed with conservation in mind by Blofield & District Conservation Group BADCOG, who cut and rake it twice a year once the flowers have seeded. The northern churchyard, a more recent acquisition, is managed by the Bure Valley Conservation Group, and its wildflower numbers are increasing well.
To mark these special weeks, the Friends of All Saints Church invite you to see:
- an exhibition in church detailing the wildflowers and wildlife seen in and around the churchyard over recent years
- a moth trap over one night – but this will be weather dependent
- Saturday morning, 10th June between 9:30 – 10:30 am – a survey of all the wildlife spotted in and around the churchyard (a survey is undertaken each month of the year)
- Saturday morning, 10th June from 11:00 am – two illustrated talks by well known and respected local naturalists
- David Bryant will discuss “How to see more birds” and
- Garth Coupland will talk about the “Amphibians of Norfolk”
- Saturday morning, 17th June between 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon – BADCOG work party in the churchyard. Do come and join in the hay raking!
- Sunday morning, 18th June at 9:30 am: “Creation Sunday Service”
Do come along to these free, very “green” events.
