Changes to how PCCs are run

An informative session on how to make it easier for PCCs to conduct their day-to-day business.
New Church of England rules now coming into effect bring a number of opportunities for PCCs to streamline the way they do business.
Among the most significant changes is the ability for a group of churches to form a joint Parochial Church Council, thereby considerably reducing the numbers of meetings required and the associated administrative burden imposed on clergy and laity. This may suit multi-parish benefices who want to try working together without the formality of a pastoral scheme to turn the benefice into a single parish.
The minimum number of PCC meetings per year has been changed from four to ‘enough to manage the business of the PCC’. The new rules are also designed to enable PCCs to do more business by correspondence.
Additional items have been added to the list of works which may be undertaken without a faculty, as well as changes to the consultation requirements in the faculty process to avoid delays.
This session is being repeated four times across the diocese, and is being conducted by the Diocesan Registrar, Stuart Jones, with the Archdeacons and DAC Secretary.
Both the new Church Representation & Ministers Measure 2019 (which came into effect on 1 January 2020) and the Faculty Jurisdiction (Amendment) Rules 2019 (which come into effect on 1 April 2020) will be discussed.
