Growth in Service Grant Scheme
Up to £1,000 for parishes towards mission through service in local communities.
As part of the Mission Strategy, £20,000 has been set aside each year for five years to support churches and benefices in demonstrating the love of Christ to their neighbours.
We are living at a time of significant austerity and many people now rely on the work of charities to provide. This is a time of both great need and great opportunity for the church to grow in service.
Across our Diocese there are many excellent examples of churches and Christian charities that are providing excellent support and resources to those in need. Just one example of this is a recent survey showing that churches across the county feed on average 7000 people every month.
The grant is available to all churches within the Diocese or activities and projects (new or existing) that are linked to churches within the Diocese.
Activities must focus on the local community, with involvement from local community and should concentrate on empowering and encouraging community members to use and develop their gifts and skills.
Projects and activities making an application to the grant should tackle at least two out of the three following areas:
- Poverty of Resources (low income, poor education, poor health, lack of qualifications)
- Poverty of Identity (drug or alcohol misuse, poor mental health, lack of well-being, lack of self-worth)
- Poverty of Relationships (fear of crime, lack of trust in others, isolation, family breakdown)
The Bishop of Thetford, the Rt Revd Alan Winton said:
“We hope this fund will encourage and enable churches to think imaginatively about ways of serving the most vulnerable in their communities, demonstrating our commitment to grow in service and to share Christ’s love in deed as well as in word.”
Completed application forms should be sent to Karen Hall on firstname.lastname@example.org (01603 882366).
