Norfolk’s Lieutenancy acknowledges the County’s best

Published on: 24 May 2022

There’s a lot to celebrate on Norfolk Day (27 July), as revealed by the appearance of new blue plaques “To commemorate our community’s resilience in the year of the pandemic 2020-2021”.

Lady Dannatt (Pippa) who, as Norfolk’s Lord-Lieutenant, is HM The Queen’s representative in the County, points out the Lieutenancy crest and the memorable maxim from Norfolk-born sociologist Harriet Martineau (1802-76) inscribed around each plaque: “Live your best & act your best & think your best today”.

The local councils and charities receiving these plaques have, during the pandemic, come together to support and look after each other, in many different ways. The Revd Matthew Hutton, one of Norfolk’s Deputy Lieutenants, has presented one to the Christian charity ENYP (Equipping, Nurturing Young People). He bubbles with enthusiasm about the imaginative ways ENYP has adapted its work with disadvantaged communities – activity packs, online resources, a youth outreach bus and over 1,000,000 meals in 2021!
