Creation care: eco church

Published on: 6 September 2021

St Mary’s, Kelling Heath, achieved an eco church Bronze award.

“The survey helped us discuss what we do, examine why, and imagine future action. It’s challenging, encouraging and it helps us ‘connect the dots’.” Blessed with a large churchyard full of wildlife and wildflowers, this spring harbouring a hen pheasant with her chicks, they started Music and Meditation during Covid restrictions in order to share the peace of this place with a wider congregation.

Their Climate Sunday service was a sung Matins, with a cantor and small choir. A neighbour remarked, “It was lovely – I know about the forest (referencing the excerpt from Wendell Berry’s Native Hill) – I always feel it when I walk up onto the heath in the evenings.” A mother from their Julian Group messaged “… love and prayers always, and a huge thank you too from Ellie (six months) and all future generations.”
