It sharpened Gaye’s sense “of the importance of including those in care homes as a vital part of our church family.” With her Rector’s encouragement, she now leads a team who regularly take short, simple acts of worship into the four care homes of the villages of the Yare Valley Churches – or, during Covid, outside them, as pictured. The congregations – growing in each home – are engaged, responsive and deeply appreciative.

So, what’s next? Recognition of and support for this ministry is planned through a formal connection (to be shared, it’s hoped, by other churches across our diocese) with the national network of Anna Chaplains. Named after the 84-year-old who waited upon God with faithfulness and insight (Luke 2. 36-38), theirs is a vision of “a pioneering, targeted ministry among people in their later years”.
