Angel art project looks back on an ancient tradition at Norwich Cathedral
Posted on Monday 2 April 2012
A willowy figure of an angel from heaven is bringing a contemporary take on a medieval tradition to Norwich Cathedral this Easter.
Created from woven willow, and with words such as peace, hope, faith and love colourfully decorating its wings, when it is installed on Saturday the angel will be a striking feature amid the magnificent surrounds of the cathedral.
In the middle ages a censing angel, from which incense was burned, hung in the cathedral’s nave during special occasions.
